Our organisation
The Australian Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health Inc. (ACPMH) is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to be an international leader in building the capability of individuals, organisations and the community to understand, prevent, reduce and recover from the adverse mental health effects of trauma. ACPMH aims to achieve its mission through specialised research, education and training, and the provision of policy and service improvement advice. Through these activities we support organisations and health professionals who help people affected by traumatic events. ACPMH’s staff include experienced clinicians, researchers and policy advisors, and many are internationally recognised for their work in the field. ACPMH is led by an independent Chair, Professor Michael Vitale and Director, Professor David Forbes.
ACPMH has partnerships with several organisations interested in the mental health effects of trauma, including the Departments of Veterans' Affairs and Defence, and the University of Melbourne.

Chair
Michael Vitale is a Professor at Monash University and the Director of the Monash Asia-Pacific Centre for Science and Wealth Creation. He has more than thirty years' experience in research, teaching, and consulting in the areas of information technology, innovation, and commercialisation. His industry roles include senior positions at the Prudential Life Insurance Company and Ernst & Young Consulting. Michael's recent experience in public sector consulting includes work with the Department of Innovation, Industry, and Regional Development, the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, and the Victorian Auditor-General's Office. Michael has a long-standing commitment to the not-for-profit sector, and his experience assisting organisations to gain commercial value from their research and intellectual expertise is highly valued by ACPMH.
Rear Admiral Robyn Walker, AM
Robyn is the Commander Joint Health and Surgeon General Australian Defence Force. She worked as a medical practitioner in the Queensland public health system for some years before joining the Royal Australian Navy. Her naval career has included coordination of health care to Australian Defence Force (ADF) operations in Iraq, the Solomon Islands and East Timor, as well as responsibility for Australia's military medical response to the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami. She led developments to ADF's Mental Health Strategy from 2005-2008, and also led a $270m revamp of the ADF's health capability. Robyn was named as the ACT Telstra White Pages Community and Government Business Woman and overall Telstra ACT Business Woman of the Year in September 2011. Robyn is a qualified medical practitioner, a specialist medical administrator, and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Major General Mark Kelly, AO, DSC
Mark is Repatriation Commissioner in the Department of Veterans' Affairs. Mark served in a number of senior command appointments during an Army career spanning over 35 years, including Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, Commander 3rd Brigade, Commander 1st Division, Land Commander Australia and Commander Joint Task Force 633. His extensive operational experience includes service with the Commonwealth Monitoring Force in Zimbabwe/ Rhodesia (1979–80), Chief of Staff of INTERFET in East Timor (1999–2001), and Commander Joint Task Force 633 in the Middle East Area of Operations and Afghanistan (2009–10).
Professor Ian Everall
Ian is the Cato Chair and Head of the University of Melbourne's Department of Psychiatry. He is a prominent international psychiatrist and neuropathologist who trained in the UK, and has held research positions in the UK and the US. His experience includes directing a large clinical service and establishing a leading research training program for psychiatrists at early career stage. Ian has been at the forefront of research into cellular, molecular and genetic changes in the brain in major psychiatric disorders for over twenty years. Ian is a member of the Australian Advisory Council for Asia-Australia Mental Health and the Advisory Committee for the Melbourne Neuroscience Institute.
Ms Yvonne Turner
Yvonne is a business professional with extensive senior executive management experience across several diverse industries in the private and public sectors in Australia and New Zealand. These include highly regulated and unionised industries and government business enterprises such as communications, transport and logistics; energy; and also consumer goods manufacturing. Yvonne has worked for large, complex organisations such as Australia Post, Solaris Power (now AGL), SPC Limited and Chesebrough Ponds International and also consulted in not-for-profit and the public sectors. Her experience includes the establishment and management of a new national business as 'green fields' involving six state operations, strategic alliances and the introduction of new leading edge technology; strategic and business planning; strategic marketing and new business development; and consulting. Yvonne holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (VUW), Master of Business Administration and Master of Marketing (Monash) degrees. She is a graduate and Director Nexus member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow and a state councillor of the Victorian branch of the Australian Marketing Institute and an Associate of Leadership Victoria.
Ms Judy Daniel
Judy is First Assistant Secretary, Health and Community Services Division, Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA). Judy joined DVA in 2009 as National Manager, Primary Care Policy. The Health and Community Services Division is responsible for the policy and service delivery of a wide range of health services to the veteran community. Prior to joining the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Judy spent several years in the Department of Health and Ageing in a range of policy and program management roles. Prior to this, Judy worked in the Departments of Prime Minister and Cabinet and Finance and Administration, following a period with the Australian Bureau of Statistics. At the ABS, Judy contributed to a range of research and analytical projects. Judy holds the Degree of Master of Economics from the Australian National University.
